Celebrating Women's Month with Kylie Jane: How Health Transforms & Empowers

Kylie Jane here, since we’re entering Women’s Month in South Africa this August, I wanted to share with you how prioritising my health and wellness has profoundly empowered me. At SANA, we believe that taking care of ourselves is the ultimate act of self-love, and I’m living proof that investing in your health can transform your life.
For those that don’t know my story - my health and wellness journey began over 15 years ago, when I found myself struggling with disordered eating and lacking the energy to do the things I once loved. My hair thinned, my nails were brittle and my skin was dry.
I had literally lost my shine.
I wanted to feel better, and help others do the same. This passion led me down the path of studying physiology, psychology, nutrition, and yoga.
Inspired by my own personal wellness journey from dull to well, and having lived in Asia for many years, I deeply believe in the concept of holistic health and how all aspects of our health, from the physical to the mental, are intimately connected.
Here are five ways that focusing on my wellbeing has given me the strength, confidence, and vitality to thrive:
Boosted Energy Levels
For years, I struggled with fatigue and a lack of energy. My days felt like an uphill battle, and I was constantly searching for a quick fix (that usually came in the form of sugar or caffeine). That all changed when I started prioritising my health by incorporating natural energy boosters into my routine. One of my favourites is of course matcha, which provides a gentle, sustained energy boost without the crash. By nourishing my body with wholesome, low GI foods, staying hydrated, and getting enough sleep, I now have the vitality to power through my day in a sustainable and balanced way.
Enhanced Mental Clarity
Mental fog used to be a regular companion, but since I’ve committed to my health, I’ve noticed a significant improvement in my cognitive function. Regular exercise, a balanced diet rich in brain-boosting nutrients, and mindfulness practices like breath-work have all played a role. Prioritising my mental health has not only enhanced my clarity and focus but also improved my mood and overall outlook on life. I’m now able to approach challenges with a clear mind and a positive attitude.
Calm Resilience
Life can throw us some curveballs, but prioritising my wellness has strengthened my resilience. Through regular physical activity, I’ve built a stronger body, but more importantly, I’ve cultivated a resilient mindset. Practices like yoga and mindful breathing have taught me how to manage stress and stay grounded during difficult times. By taking care of my mental and emotional health, I’m better equipped to handle whatever life throws my way.
Improved Self-Confidence
When you feel good, you look good, and confidence naturally follows. Prioritising my health has helped me feel more comfortable and confident in my own skin, and healed my relationship with my body. From adopting a skincare routine that nourishes my complexion to eating foods that make me feel vibrant from the inside out, these small acts of self-care have boosted my self-esteem. Feeling strong, healthy, and radiant has empowered me to step out of my comfort zone and pursue my dreams with conviction.
Deepened Self-Connection
One of the most profound benefits of prioritising my wellness has been the deepened connection with myself. Through practices like journaling and mindfulness, I’ve learned to listen to my body’s needs and honour my intuition. I treat my body with deep respect - knowing it's always on my side, and always trying to protect me. This journey has been about more than just physical health; it’s been about cultivating a loving relationship with myself. By making my health a priority, I’ve learned to trust myself, embrace my uniqueness, and celebrate the woman I am.
Prioritising my health and wellness has truly been a journey of empowerment. It’s about recognising that I am worthy of the time and effort it takes to feel my best. At SANA, we believe that every woman deserves to feel empowered through self-care.
